Kruja, the capital of the Principality of Albania, the first autonomous Albanian state in the Middle Ages, is considered by the Albanians to be their Jerusalem. Here you will find the Old Bazaar of Kruja, which has preserved the traditional Albanian markets of the 18th to 19th century with numerous small shops, as well as the handicrafts that have been passed down from generation to generation. The bazaar runs from the city centre to the gates of the famous castle of Kruja. There you will find the National Museum of the Albanian national hero, Skanderbeg and in a traditional 18th century house the National Ethnographic Museum.
